How can you increase traffic to your website? There are many ways to do this, but link building is one of the most effective, maybe even THE most effective.
So then what is internet link building?
Basically, it hinges on the idea of creating what are called BACKLINKS. This term is used to denote any links TO your website FROM another website. These can be very useful to you in a variety of ways. First, they can give you a lot of free traffic, particularly if the backlink is from a website that itself has a lot of visitors. Secondly, the search engines tend to take more notice of sites that have a number in inbound links across the internet. There are other benefits but these two are the principal ones, at least from the point of view of making money online.
That’s fine, but how can you get people to put links to your website?
Well, you can’t simply ask someone to put a link to you on their site can you? The answer to that, strange though it may seem, is that you sometimes can do just that. Ask! It is amazing how many of us do not adopt this very simple and often effective action. So ask a website owner to exchange links with you. What have you got to lose? If they say no, or ignore you, you are still where you were before. But they might just say yes.
Another way is to browse through the websites or blogs written by other people, and if you find an article or piece that interests you and comments are enabled, leave a comment. Make sure to include a link to your site or your site url as a signature. This is a widely acceptable practice, and would not be considered to be spamming, as long as you do not try to put too many links in your comment.
A third way is to write articles on your own blog that are interesting enough for a few people to notice, who then may well link to you. Incidentally, do not be afraid to be controversial. We have found that a strongly held opinion can actually cause others to link to your site, since your opinion will provoke discussion. Even people who oppose you will link to your site. This is a good illustration of the old saying, there is no such thing as bad publicity.
The fourth way I want to look at here is perhaps the most powerful, and that is what is known as article marketing. If you look around, you will find many sites now that accept articles for free publication, and allow you to include a backlink to your site. These free article websites generate very high traffic volumes, so if your article is accepted by them, your article and your link will be seen by a lot of readers.
These sites have certain minimum standards of acceptability for an article, but you do not have to be a great writer. You should find that if you have something to say, and you can express it in reasonably good, grammatical language, your article will be accepted. The traffic to your website will follow.
Finally, one thing to remember above all. The above techniques require PATIENCE. Do not expect instant success from them, as many have done and failed as a result. It may take a little time for the traffic to build when you try these methods, but when it does come, it will be solid traffic.

Link baiting is simply getting more and more inbound links with a twist. Rather than hunting out links link baiting brings the links to you through unique and popular site content. Matt Cutts defines link bait as anything “interesting enough to catch people’s attention, and that doesn’t have to be a bad thing.”. Link baiting involves production of link worthy content, video or images, which in turn generates massive amount of one-way inbound links.
Link baiting has been long time regarded as black hat technique, but if it’s interesting information or fun, it doesn’t have to have negative connotations. Content can be both: white-hat as well as interesting enough to generate buzz. Floating information or ideas that people talk about is a sure-shot method to generate links.
You don’t have to be a big brand or have a lot of money to create link bait. Many people have created link bait on purpose and many have created link bait without even knowing it. For search marketers, the techniques, if handled properly in an ethical manner, can be quite helpful in producing good quality one way links.
How Does Link Bait Work?
Link Baiting is just like fishing. You send out bait (content) in the pond (the internet) and patiently wait for a bite (linkback). The article is the bait, and the link is the catch. A properly created page can capture huge links on its own with little to no effort from you.
The Hooks
Before any real ‘fishing’ can take place you need a link baiting hooks and they come in all shape and sizes:
1. News Hook
2. Resource Hooks
3. Contrary Hook
4. Attack Hook
5. Humor Hooks
1. News Hooks
For this to work you almost exclusively have to break the ice on the matter, that means to you have to be the first to break the news. Whether it’s the latest gadget or the latest Britney Spears goof, you have to be the first and the news should be big enough to generate enough curiosity.
2. Resource Hooks
Resource hook is more of an informational page. Do some research and build a great, unique and remarkable article in a field on which you’re an expert. It’s important you know what you’re talking about or else you’ll get trolled.
3. Contrary Hooks
Contrary hooks are when you contradict someone else’s statement. It should be about someone prominent in the industry and it should be controversial.
4. Attack Hooks
Attack hooks are next level of contrary hooks where you launch personal attacks on people taking the debunking of theories to the next level.
5. Humor Hooks
This is the easiest type of link bait, just blog about a funny video or story and you can get some major exposure. But it isn’t as easy as it looks, the niche is really crowded and that means you really need to have something truly funny on your hands and a lot of luck.

Everyone knows that constructing links to your website is essential for increasing search engine results. I recently got a question for the methods I use for building effective links. After responding among a thorough discussion about researching websites, finding possible link partners, and a variety of link making ideas, I reached a simple conclusion… stick to the basics.
Even though the “basic” system to link producing isn’t sexy, it works. Here are just a few techniques you should focus on for building quality links to your websites.
1. Find authoritative websites in your industry. Look for those websites that list a number of your competitors and process them for an inbound link or link exchange. These sites command a great PR and are subject issue related.
2. Develop a link exchange program. When you exchange links amid a site, the overall value to Google and other searching engines isn’t as high as a one-way link but it does improve your rankings. Take your time, find the right sites, and generate sure that the Google PR of the site that’s linking to you is the same or better than your outbound link.
3. Link to something of value. Get other sites to link to you by offering something they do not own on such a website. A widget, tool, or content can be enough to encourage a link to your site. Let others know what you have and what’s in it for them. You’d be surprised how fast people can link to something that ads value to this website or webpage.

Think of it this way if you have a conventional off-line store, but no customers then you would make no sales and go bust right, well visitors to your site are potential customers, readers or whatever type of visitor you need.
Web Site Traffic is the most important aspect of a website after great content.
The web is immense in size and a website without traffic is like a page in a book in a virtual library with an infinative amount of books, no one will ever find the book it is written in, let alone the actual page without being directed there via traffic building techniques applied to your site, no matter how good the content, layout, colour scheme or the product is.
The more traffic the more visitors, sales, referrals and ultimately money you will achieve and that’s what most people online want.
Web site traffic is the most critical component of any internet marketing plan. Without web site traffic, anything else you do is useless!
How useful would it be to have a store that had no doors or windows? How about a store that was at the end of a dead-end street in a ghost town? Having a website with no traffic is just as useless as having a store in an area with no traffic, or having a store with no way for customers to get in!
Traffic is the one thing is seems like everyone needs, but almost no one knows how to get. Traffic makes the web go ’round, but why is it so difficult to get?
Well, there may be millions of people surfing the internet at any given time, but there are also millions of websites out there. In 2006, it was estimated that there were over 100 million websites on the internet.
That number has rises substantially since then. There is an estimate that 1.3 billion people have access to the internet today.
That means if web traffic was divided equally between all websites, there would only be about 13 visitors per website. Of course, we know traffic isn’t distributed evenly, or fairly. Sites like Google and MySpace get millions of visitors, while some sites get none at all.
All That Can Change! Driving to traffic to your site takes a little bit of time and effort, but once mastered you can become rich.
